Gopal and the Hilsa Fish
Summary in English
The story “Gopal and the Hilsa Fish” is about a witty courtier named Gopal. During the Hilsa fish season, everyone in the kingdom was talking only about this fish. The king, annoyed by this obsession, challenged Gopal to buy a Hilsa fish from the market and bring it to the palace without anyone talking about it. Gopal accepted the challenge. He shaved half his beard, smeared ash on his body, and wore rags to look like a madman. When he walked through the market carrying a Hilsa fish, people only laughed at his strange appearance and never mentioned the fish. On reaching the palace, the king praised Gopal’s cleverness and wit. The story shows how intelligence and presence of mind can solve the toughest challenges.

“गोपाल और हिलसा मछली” की कहानी एक बुद्धिमान दरबारी गोपाल के बारे में है। हिलसा मछली के मौसम में राज्य के लोग केवल उसी के बारे में बातें कर रहे थे। राजा इससे परेशान होकर गोपाल को चुनौती देता है कि वह मछली लेकर आए और कोई उसके बारे में बात न करे। गोपाल ने चालाकी से खुद को अजीब वेशभूषा में बदल लिया – आधी दाढ़ी मुंडवाई, शरीर पर राख लगाई और फटे कपड़े पहने। जब वह बाजार से हिलसा मछली लेकर निकला, तो लोग उसकी शक्ल पर हंसे पर मछली का जिक्र तक नहीं किया। महल पहुँचने पर राजा उसकी बुद्धिमत्ता से प्रभावित हुआ। कहानी हमें सिखाती है कि समझदारी और सूझबूझ से हर मुश्किल हल की जा सकती है।

Story Writing
Once a stag was proud of his beautiful horns but ashamed of his thin legs. One day, hunters chased him. He ran fast and escaped because of his legs, but his horns got caught in the bushes. Finally, he realized that his legs were more useful than his horns. Moral: What we dislike may be most useful to us.
एक बारहसिंगा अपने सुंदर सींगों पर गर्व करता था लेकिन अपने पतले पैरों से शर्मिंदा था। एक दिन शिकारी आए। वह पैरों की वजह से तेज़ भागा और बच गया, लेकिन उसके सींग झाड़ियों में फँस गए। तब उसे समझ आया कि उसके पैर ही असली सहायक हैं। नीति: जो हमें बेकार लगता है वही सबसे उपयोगी हो सकता है।
